This is a one-year, fully funded master’s program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, designed to build a global community of future leaders who will serve to deepen understanding between China and the rest of the world.

Schwarzman Scholars are chosen from a distinguished international pool of candidates who demonstrate not only academic excellence and exceptional achievements in their fields but also outstanding leadership qualities.

The program seeks individuals who embody the diversity and vibrancy of global society, with a strong commitment to understanding different cultures and perspectives. Successful candidates are expected to excel in areas such as leadership ability, exemplary character and integrity, intellectual aptitude, empathy and intercultural competency, open-mindedness, and entrepreneurial spirit, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the rigorous demands of the program.

The Schwarzman Scholars program employs a rigorous selection process to identify the most promising young leaders worldwide. Candidates who succeed in this process demonstrate not only strong leadership potential but also the ability to understand and contribute meaningfully to the program’s mission. Those selected are expected to help the initiative evolve in response to the demands of a rapidly changing global environment, ensuring its continued relevance and impact.

For the Schwarzman Scholars program, the application timeline differs slightly depending on the applicant’s region. U.S. and global applicants may submit their applications between April 8 and September 9, 2026, with selections taking place in October and November of that year. The program officially begins in August 2027. Meanwhile, applicants from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan follow an earlier schedule, with applications accepted from January to May 2026, selections occurring in June and July, and the program likewise commencing in August 2027. This structured timeline ensures a coordinated selection process across diverse applicant groups.

A distinguished committee, composed of leaders from business, government, and academia worldwide, carefully reviews applications to the Schwarzman Scholars program. From this pool, a selected group of candidates is invited to interviews held in late October and early November, conducted by an international panel of leaders representing diverse backgrounds.

These interviewers draw upon their leadership experience to identify highly accomplished individuals whose future paths will be strengthened by exposure to China and its global role. Ultimately, the program seeks young leaders with the drive and ambition to make meaningful progress on issues of significant importance.

Eligibilities

Undergraduate degree completed by August 1 of enrollment year

Age between 18–28 at enrollment

Proficiency in English (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, or Duolingo accepted; waivers possible for prior English study)
